Field Trip

Last Friday Steph + I (Jen) headed to Cameron Street Public School for the day. We both have children at the school, + the school has been under construction since the end of the school year last summer.The new gym is still under construction, so the kids are currently without a gym. We decided to contact the school + offered to volunteer our time to spend the day doing CrossFit with whichever classes we’re interested.  Giving the teachers some more ideas or things the kids can do outside for gym class until the new gym is ready.  + changing things up a little for the kids!Turns out pretty much the entire school was interested!  Classes from grade 1 to grade 8, approx. 400 students, plus staff + teachers, came to see us during different periods throughout the day.We set up 3 outdoor workout areas, to include sleds drags, keg rolls, sandbags, etc.having been on many field trips with my children’s classes over the years, we weren’t entirely sure what to expect with some many age groups + kids.But all these kids were fully engaged, they listened extremely well, + crushed each workout!They also learned the first step in olympic lifting, + the importance of burpees in everyday life! They may go home teaching their parents + grandparents how important a burpee is as well!For us this wasn’t a sales pitch on what CrossFit is, it was about teaching 400 children that fitness is fun!  + giving them an opportunity to see, touch, + try equipment they might not have ever seen before.Each group ended with big smiles + everyone running around high-fiving their class mates!It was a long day, but so much fun!We’re extremely grateful to all the staff at Cameron Street who were open enough to the idea, + allowing us the opportunity like this!CrossFit Indestri is also an approved location on the SCDSB list for School Field Trips!
