The Other Total
Much like CrossFit Total which we hit a few weeks ago, we’re hitting some 1 rep maxes. But this is the Other Total.
You will be given approx. 15 mins to find your 1 RM in the Clean, Bench Press and Overhead Squat. In that order. Clean, Bench Press, OHS.
Just like CrossFit Total, we’re searching for your heaviest possible lift on that day, with good and proper form. In order for your lifts to count towards your total, you need to hit the proper movement standards. If you’re working towards depth on your OHS, that’s fine. Make a note of the fact that you’re still working on depth, but do not count anything that isn’t below parallel in the total. Same with all the movements. There is a standard of movement that needs to be reached.
You still make note of the weight you lifted, as well as the standard of movement you were able to achieve. This isn’t meant to make anyone feel badly, it’s a goal to strive towards. We often say that fitness is measurable, but only if you measure it.
If on the other total, you don’t get below parallel on the OHS this year, and you lift say 105 lbs, and the next time we do it, you do get below parallel, but you only lift 100 lbs. You will be disappointed that it looks like you’re strength when down, when in fact that’s not at all the case. You’re actually stronger, and were able to achieve the full range of motion and movement standards. This is another reason why we tell you to write it down.
