Being Mindful
Often times in CrossFit you hear talk about going to the dark place or being in the pain cave. That’s all well + good, but we still want you to be mindful in training!Getting the most out of your training by staying mindful + present throughout!BoxRox magazine posted;
5 reasons to practice Mindfulness during your WOD....
1. Understand your pain. Pain is a fact of life, but it doesn’t have to rule you. Mindfulness can help you reshape your reactions to mental and physical pain.2. Connect better. Ever find yourself staring blankly at a child, friend, significant other, and you have no idea what they’re saying? Mindfulness helps you give them your full attention.3. Lower stress. There is a great deal of evidence that excess stress is the root cause of many illnesses and even can make other diseases worse. Mindfulness decreases stress.4. Focus your mind. It can be frustrating to have our mind stray and be pulled in six directions. Meditation hones our innate ability to focus.5. Reduce brain chatter. The nattering, chattering voice in our head seems never to leave us alone. Isn’t it time we gave it a little break?Practicing being mindful during a WOD can translate into all aspects of your life!Being mindful upon entering the building, to exiting + throughout your entire day will go along way.An example; being mindful of the other members hour in the gym. If you arrive early for a class while another class is still going on, hang out in the lobby, give that class their time in the gym, rather then jumping on a bike. Or when the coach pulls everyone into the board to chat about the workout, staying present + mindful, rather than zoning out, or chatting with others around you, or even going to gather your equipment. Our coaches are incredibly knowledgeable + without staying mindful + present, you might just miss a key piece of information they’re trying to rely, or cause a distraction to other members, having them miss the information being given.Another term we hear a lot in CrossFit is being WOD drunk. After the workout, you pushed yourself so hard, that it takes you time to gather your thoughts, this comes in the form or not putting away or wiping down your equipment, etc. Maybe take a few moments after your workout to gather yourself together, bring in back to mindfully putting everything back better than you found it, not only for the coach, but also for the class coming in after you!It’s so easy for all of us to just shut off for the hour + do the work given, this is especially true during those gruelling WOD’s. But we should all be working towards more mindful training, especially during movement!The Focus piece today is a continuation of our squats, up to 20 mins this week, this is the perfect workout / focus piece to begin practicing mindfulness, don’t shut off + just squat. Stay present, focus on really finding the bottom position + the top position of each rep. Focus on staying engaged + not bottoming out. Enjoy week 3 of squats.....
