Beauty of the Community
We talk about "The Community" a lot….. And for good reason. The Community is what truly sets CrossFit apart. When you walk into a CF gym people know you're name, they're excited to see you and train alongside you, whoever finishes the workout first (if its not an AMRAP) turns around and cheers on everyone else who is still working away. After the workout, there's clapping, fist bumps, high fives, and good jobs all around.You've probably heard it said, that CrossFit is more than just a workout. Because it is, training with a high intensity, putting everything you have into a workout, puts you in a vulnerable state, it can be emotional. Probably a big reason why you get connected and form close relationship with each other. You're going through something together, you know what the person beside you feels like, because you just experienced the same thing. It's not the same as hitting up a regular gym, going in, doing your own thing, and leaving without so much as making eye contact with anyone else.The Beauty of the Community, is that it starts at the grass roots level (the Affiliate), but it extends all the way up to the elite, to the Sport of CrossFit! The first time I (Jen) truly noticed this, outside of the walls of CrossFit Indestri, was watching the 2012 CrossFit Games on my iPad at home, at the time I was about 4 month in to CrossFit, and had no idea who most of these elite athletes were. I remember watching this track event, where one of the women was struggling trying to get this thing, called a Bar Muscle Up. All the other ladies, that were competing against her, had finished and were cheering her on. After the time was up she went to her knees in tears and a group of her competitors were right at her side, patting her back, telling her she did a good job. It was absolutely incredible to see, so much so that I still talk about it, and am sharing it with you on the blog.Check it out. You can watch the whole video or skip ahead to the 18:00 min mark!Funny enough, I've since become good friends with the woman who was struggling to get those bar muscle ups! Her name is Jenny LaBaw, and those 3 women you see at her side at the end are, CrossFit OG Annie Sakamoto, 2x Fittest on Earth Annie Thorisdottir, and the current 2nd Fittest on Earth Kara Webb (her last name was Gordon in 2012 incase you watch the whole video). It was a beautiful thing to see these ladies who are battling it out for hundreds of thousands of dollars, just as supportive of one another as they would be if hitting a workout together in an affiliate.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYCgxlvpxwAThe Beauty of Community also extends outside the daily WODs in the gym. That connection we make with each other also makes us want to, and enjoy helping an supporting our fellow CrossFitters and friends both locally and globally. Friends like fellow CFI member Rich Meesters, who will be starting his bike across Canada soon, in support of Childhood Cancer, and friends regionally, like Jen Young's Love the Snatch Masters Event, which will be happening in Burlington in September, for any Masters wanting to compete, or anyone looking to help volunteer, and also friends globally, like Jenny LaBaw, who we will be doing Move Mountains in support of on October 19th right here at CFI! Our Community
We can have the best equipment, the coolest space, the greatest team of incredible coaches and staff, (which we feel we do) but the true beauty of CrossFit Indestri is you, Our Community! Thank you, for all the claps, cheers, fist bumps, high fives and good jobs, the pats on the back, the words of encouragement, the helping put away someone else's equipment. Thank you for caring about each other and making our community at CrossFit Indestri such a special one!
