JY Pi 3.14 - Wednesday May 17th/17

JY Pi-3.14

Two years ago the Canada East CrossFit Community lost a very special soul.  CrossFit honours lost CrossFitters through workouts.  While this workout is not one recognized worldwide, this is a WOD we have been doing at CFI since May 2015 when the Canada East community lost Jen Young.  Many of us knew Jen, and were lucky to consider her a friend.  Jen was a member at CrossFit Altitude in Burlington, which is where she and Coach Brit met.  I asked Brit if she wanted to would write a little about JY for todays blog, as Brit and Jen were very close.JY was a special woman, who after her diagnosis created the Love the Snatch Foundation to help others.  Whether you were lucky enough to ever meet JY or not, going in to this workout, get after it in honour of a very special women!

From Coach Brit….

This time 2 years ago, my life changed forever. I remember getting ready for 2015 super regionals and getting the call that my pal, Jen Young.  Jen was not doing very well in the hospital. I chose to FaceTime her instead of going to see her because I had to train and didn't want to drive back to the city and not get through my program.  To be honest, I was also in denial that this was the end for her.To this day, this is my biggest regret.  Jen passed away shortly after and I never got to see her again. At regionals I was a mess. Nothing mattered because I didn't have my smart ass, nerdy, cat loving, CrossFit junkie friend by my side. She was suppose to come as my coach for the weekend to get behind the scenes experience. At regionals CrossFit even announced her as a good friend of Michele and Erika Letendre while knowing nothing about her or her Love the Snatch Foundation and they had absolutely no idea how much she meant to me.I was in a bad place for months, I hated CrossFit, and I hated myself for being so selfish.  I trained angry and I trained injured. It wasn't until I got to write about my experience in SweatRX magazine that I realized that this was an opportunity to be a better person, over a better athlete.  I no longer put my training before relationships.  Relationships are everything and can't be taken for granted.  I also learned from Jen (JY), that you should embrace being yourself.I used to make fun of her for knitting, her math skills, her terrible hair, and having cat hair all over her clothes.... now that's what I miss.  So embrace who you are and always be true no matter what others think.Jen Y, I love you so much and miss you terribly,Your friend,Brit
