Jen’s Birthday WOD

It’s my birthday, and today will be a WOD dedicated to it.

It always feels really odd to write a blog about myself, so I looked back at older posts to hopefully just copy and paste a past blog, but I decided to add a little more, open up a little more.

For those who don’t really know me, (which I don’t honestly think is anyone, though there could be the odd member who only attends 6am, and we may not have met yet in person, though I would have talked to you to set up your membership, or have maybe only met once or twice.) I’m a Co-Owner of CrossFit Indestri along with Coach Steph and Stouty, and have been for the past 9 years (on December 9th.) I love CrossFit. I have since the day I start way back in 2012. I love everything about it, the hard work, the feeling of accomplishment, developing the movements, the community both in our facility and the greater community at large. I am on the shy’er side, believe it or not, so I tend to only coach classes if we’re in need of a coach, as talking in front of groups of people makes me very uncomfortable, it always has, though I have been coaching more in the past couple years. I’m the owner that does more of the behind the scenes running of the business, with the blog, programming, social media, emails, paying of the bills, etc. As I already mentioned, I absolutely love CrossFit, and CrossFit Indestri and have been a part of the facility as a member since 2012 and Co-Owner since 2015. I also use to be 1/3rd of the organizing team for UG Series until we sold it after the 2019 event, but from 2012 to 2019 I was a part of helping to create what was Canada’s Largest Functional Fitness Competition and travelled all over Ontario and even into Montreal to create events, and loved it every single minute of it. Between events at CFI and UG, I have been a part of running well over 50 competitions.

I hope everyone enjoys the workout today, it took me a few re-writes to come up with one. I tend to stick to things like Hang Power Cleans, burpees, etc. movements I like. But the numbers surrounding my birthday don’t always make for an easy program, and I also try to look at movements that I can do with a vest on. This year I changed it up a little, and chose to go with 45 instead of the traditional 12, 5, 1979.

So yes it’s a long one today, 45 mins because I’m 45. We will start with a 1979m Row buy in, because I was born in 1979, and then you will AMRAP the remaining time with 45 reps of 5 movements, again, because I’m 45 and was born on the 5th. The 12 isn’t represented this year. Long workouts like this are something we usually save for Saturday’s, so we know its doable for you to explain the workout and get you warm in 15 mins, but you’ll need to get to work in the warm up to ensure you’re warm and ready. Also remember, 45 mins is a long time, don’t start out hot, slow and steady, just keep moving, and if at any point you feel like complaining, just be thankful you’re not in a weight vest. :)
