Grace for Grace - Mon Feb 27/17
Grace for Grace
We have a handful of events that are very close to our hearts at CrossFit Indestri and tomorrow is one of them. Since 2014 we have been doing Grace for Grace at CFI. On the closest day to world purple day as possible (March 26th).We have a family of longtime members at the gym. The Howe Family, Gavin, Monika, Emma & Grace. Grace was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 4 and since, Gavin & Monika have been doing everything possible to learn about epilepsy and to help Grace in her journey. Monika first brought the idea of Grace for Grace to us in 2014, a day when everyone in the gym wears purple, in years past we've had t-shirts forsale, done a bake sale, Monika has come in at 6am and made purple smoothies forsale and stayed for every class all day long to raise as much awareness and funds as possible for epilepsy.This year they are away during Grace for Grace, but they're thrilled that we will continue on with the tradition. We ask each of you to wear purple tomorrow for the WOD, and we will donate a % of any sales of our CrossFit Indestri black & gold apparel, CrossFit Indestri Beanies, and CrossFit Indestri snapbacks to epilepsy awareness and research. If anyone wishes to leave a donation we will make sure that the epilepsy foundation receives it.
Message from Monika Howe;
Thank You Crossfit Indestri for raising Epilepsy Awareness and doing Grace for Grace again.Over 50 million people world wide have epilepsy. There is no cure. We fight, raise funds and awareness in hope that one day very soon a cure will be found.For me Grace for Grace, Purple Day is a very emotional day, I usually end up in tears and emotionally drained. We live with epilepsy every single day yet this Epilepsy Awareness Day reminds me Epilepsy exists. It makes it so real! It's out there for the world to see. It's not just in our household, behind closed doors quietly wishing it would go away.I wish epilepsy did not exist, I wish there was no Purple Day, I wish there was a cure. But it does exist and it effects the lives of so many. It effects the ones living with epilepsy and their loved ones. So this Purple Day please wear some purple with a purpose, spread awareness, learn seizure first aid.
This year we are away and unable to participate in Grace for Grace, however we are very grateful to Coach Steph, Coach Stouty and Jen for continuing this event and to every single one of you participating in it.We Thank You for raising awareness, for doing Grace for Grace, for wearing purple, and for supporting us. From the bottom of our hearts THANK YOU 💜Cheers,MonikaSo tomorrow when your hitting Grace, when it gets heavy and you want to stop, think of Grace Howe. For me (Jen) personally, Grace for Grace was the last workout I hit a year ago, "PRing it." Before I dislocated my shoulder the following day. Not in the same shape I was a year ago, but I look forward to hitting Grace for Grace tomorrow for Grace Howe!PLEASE WEAR PURPLE!Be a purple hero!
