It’s that time of the year when we see a million + one posts about “getting your summer body ready”! ( incert sigh here )
Don’t be fooled by these posts or get caught up in them! Also try + remember that not everything you see is real! Photoshop + photo editing systems, can manipulate images. (As seen in the imagine above!)
We did a post back on Jan 1st about body image. Much like the “new year, new you”, is the “time to get your summer beach body ready”.
Look we’re all for helping you get into the shape you want to be in. That’s why we’re here! But let’s just stop for a second + imagine we were listening to a conversation among children. If you heard kids talking about cutting all carbs out of their diet to get abs what would you say? Or if you heard them saying they need to step it up in the gym because their midsection won’t look good in swimwear this summer. How would you react?
It’s absurd to think of children speaking this way, so why is it okay for adults? And why is it okay for thousands of companies, trainers, etc in the health + fitness industry to promote products, + programs based on this?
It’s not. But the illusion of the perfect body sells.
Don’t kid yourself, we know that our business is among those in the health + fitness community + we do want to help you reach your goals, whatever they are. If that goal is to look your best, great, we’re here + happy to help. But don’t let some image tell you what that should be + above all else, if you’re healthy + feel good, celebrate what your body is capable of doing!
