Coach Marc Says Good bye to CrossFit Indestri

This post has been a long time coming, and its one I can’t write easily. Indestri has been a big part of my life for over 4 years. It started with me moving up here from Burlington and marcgetting tipped off by my old gym that there was this hockey guy crossfitting in his garage around Collingwood. He had ordered some gear from the gym in Burlington and was a super solid guy. So I looked him up, went over and threw down with Scott and Nash (he was a lot smaller then). As the summer wore on he told me he was thinking about opening a box and asked if I would be interested in coaching… Until then my CrossFit experience had been 6 months of doing what I thought to be right from crossfit.com and almost a year of instruction from a gym in the city. Could I coach this stuff though? I wasn’t really sure. So I went for my level one, passed, and it has been affecting my life in ways I never thought possible ever since. It’s something special being able to say you have been attached to something since the beginning. Seeing it develop and grow, you in turn growing with it. I look back at the time I have spent with everyone at Indestri and think of it with nothing but fondness. It’s amazingly rewarding seeing people exceed their expectations. Not just someone going sub 3 mins on Fran or clean 300+ lbs. The real thrill for me is seeing someone totally intimidated walk in and be able to help them overcome those feelings. To help someone be able to feel confident to live on their own or get back into a sport they stopped playing. Nurturing the idea that persistence pays off. Working towards a goal and achieving that in a physical realm can crossover into all aspects of your life. Improving someone’s sense of themselves and see they walk around with a new found confidence. These are all things I have seen in others and very much in me. It is a great thing to be able to be a small part in the transformations you see daily in the gym. When I first moved to Collingwood my folks asked “why are you moving up there? I know there is great stuff to do but you don’t really know anyone”. I replied “When the gym opens up, I’ll make all the friends I need”. A truer phase never spoken. Over the 4 1/2 years I have made friendships I will have for the rest of my life. I talk to the guys at work and they all go to a regular gym but they now see I am part of something so much more than that. It is like a type of fitness cheers, where everyone knows your name. People come together to support one another and get excited to go to a class cause they know their friends will always be there. This is something that I feel the most privileged to have been a part of and help nurture. Finally, I must thank Scott and Tyson. It has been such a cool experience to go from nothing to what Indestri is now. Then with the addition of Bill shortly after opening, more gas was tossed on the fire. I must thank those guys for their support, leadership, and guidance over the past 4 years. These are friendships that will last a lifetime. Thank you CrossFit Indestri, we are moving out to the mountains to put some of this fitness to good use. I encourage all of you to come visit, look forward to seeing you soon. It’s not goodbye, just see you later.Coach MarcLifetime coach at CrossFit Indestri
