Class Time
Something we tend to hear after classes, or during, is that you as the athletes will spend time working on a certain skill before or after class, or even at home.
Class is the time to work on that skill.
This is training, our classes are designed to a lot time for you to work on developing the skill. Coach Neal is an excellent example of that. During Coach Steph’s birthday WOD last week, Coach Neal worked on learning his Double Under Crossovers. During the workout. For him this meant he did every single rep in singles. But he did every single rep. Why? Because it’s a new skill for him that he was learning, and in order to master it, he needs to do it.
Often people get so worried about what the score on the leaderboard will be then opt for a scale or modification right away (with certain movements) instead of attempting the movement. Class is the time to work on the movement. During the briefing the coaches explain the stimulus of the workout and give you options. usually when it involves skipping, DU’s, CrossOvers, etc. for those learning the coach will tell you to count everything, this keeps the stimulus of the workout moving, but allows you to attempt the movement.
Don’t think you need more time outside of classes to work on skills, classes are the time. We’re a coach led “teaching” facility, and we’re all continuing to work on bettering our skills all the time.
