No Pain, No Gain
Well….. This statement doesn’t ring true in all situations.
It you’re experiencing pain when you train, you should NOT just keep pushing and working the the pain. You should address it. Go see someone, find out what’s going on. Working through real pain is not something we would ever encourage.
Should you come to train when you have something going on?
Well there is no clear cut answer for this, because it depends what is going on. You tweaked your knee yesterday, should you come to the gym today? The answer is no. You should give your body a rest. Time to heal.
You have an on going knee issue that you’re working through with a physio, and have been cleared for movement, but with direction on things to maybe avoid for a little while? Yes, of course. All our coaches are skilled at modifying movements to give you a similar stimulus, but have you avoid further issues.
See no clear cut answer. But let’s look at it this way. If you have something (an injury, or pain) suddenly come up, you should rest. We understand that FOMO is real, and you might not want to get out of your routine. However, your body is telling you to slow down and rest. If you have something going on that is going to be going on for awhile, and you’ve been cleared, or need to avoid certain movements, yes come, we can absolutely accommodate modifications.
But remember, taking a day or two to allow your body to recover is a good thing.
Remember if there is pain, you do not push through. You won’t have any gains, unless you deal with the reason for the pain.
( For any smart asses reading this and thinking that some workouts are painful, and they should maybe just avoid them. That is not the type of pain we’re talking about, and that is where the No Pain, No Gain statement does ring true. :) Just clarifying. )
