Always the same
You’ve probably heard the coaches at one time or another say that from a light lift to a heavy lift, (even a PVC pipe) all of your lifts should look exactly the same.
If you happened to watch the Atlas Games Semi Final over the weekend, and watched the team lifting event (Snatch Ladder) you may have seen a few of the lifters do pretty much just that. In particular, referring to the men on the 1855 Team, Pete Shaw and Tommy Markhauser. Both have been CrossFitters for a very long time, Pete Shaw is a former Individual Games athlete and is also a CrossFit Red Shirt, (meaning he is seminar staff for CrossFit HQ, teaching the coaches how to coach.) it’s part of Pete’s job to move very well.
But if you’ve ever wondered what exactly the coach means when they say this, go back and watch those men lift, Tommy’s lift from 185lbs to 275lbs looks pretty much the exact same. 3 hours and 36 min mark (you can skip ahead) Tommy and Pete are the first lifters. Mens Heat 2, Event 4.
Now that being said, this didn’t happen overnight for these men, they’ve spent years lifting. But this is the goal as coaches, to have you move well. The heavier weights are fun to lift, and that will come with time, but creating the solid foundation first is what is most important.
Give it a watch if you’re interested.
