The Program
Each workout we program has a desired stimulus.
Some days are meant to be light and fast, this usually means that we’re looking for a higher intensity as the weights are set lighter for you to move quickly.
Some days are mean to be heavy and slower, this usually means that we’re looking for you to slow down a little as the weights are on the heavier side.
Some days are programmed long, usually less intensity, some days are short, usually higher intensity.
Our programming isn’t done with each day individually in mind, the programming is done as a whole. We do have periods of time where we focus on something, ie) strength, or endurance, etc.
The art of CrossFit is in the programming, and it’s something that we as a facility have done ourselves for the past 14 years. Getting in depth into the programming with you as athletes is not something we share, as the programming is part of our business. It could be looked at as part of the secret sauce so to speak. Many long time and bigger affiliates have actually branched into selling their programming for another revenue stream for their facilities. We have not, but we do take a great deal of pride in our programming, and even more pride in how many athletes we have helped through programming.
We’ve helped athletes increase strength, increase fitness levels, gain new skills, etc. We have even helped a couple athletes over the years to lose 100lbs in one year, though that isn’t our main focus. We focus on having you move well, everything else is an added bonus.
We share notes on the blog (like yesterday) about not looking for a 1 RM with the snatch, to give you and idea of the desired stimulus of the workout. Because it’s all meant to be pieces of a puzzle that overtime fit together to help you to keep improving your fitness. When we start to see athletes go rogue with the programming, is when we typically see injuries start to occur. Too heavy too often, too high of an intensity too often, overloading a certain muscle groups too often, scaling up the workouts, etc.
Programming is something we spend a good amount of time on, and have worked hard to develop over the past 14 years. CrossFit isn’t a quick fix, or overnight transformation. It’s a lifestyle and the programming reflects that.
However the programming wouldn’t matter nearly as much if we didn’t have all the incredible coaches that we have to deliver it. Something we’re incredibly grateful for.
Trust the process, the program, the coaches, put in the work, and reap the benefits.
