The Open is Coming
CrossFit announced the 2024 Games season dates last week.
For those newer to CrossFit, the CrossFit Games are the “Stanley Cup” of CrossFit, the best of the best compete for a lot of money, as well as the title of fittest on earth. However the beauty of CrossFit, is that we all get to start the road to the games together.
From first timers to the fittest on earth, we all start together, with the CrossFit Open. Inside our facility for 3 weeks in Feb/March we will host Open workouts on Saturday mornings. You register for the open beginning on Jan 9th, 2024 at games.crossfit.com.
Important Dates:
Open Registration Begins - Jan. 9, 2024.
Workout 24.1 - released Feb. 29 doing March 2nd at Indestri
Workout 24.2 - released March 7 doing March 9th at Indestri
Workout 24.3 - released March 14 doing March 16th at Indestri
You will have a judge beside you in our facility to judge your movement standards and reps, once you complete the workout you will be given a slip with your score, you go back on to your account on games.crossfit.com where you registered and you input your score and judges name. As scary as it might sound, it’s a ton of fun. Yes it is a competition, yes you MUST achieve the movement standards that are set by CrossFit HQ in order to get the reps counted, but you’re competing in our facility, with the support of the community you train with day in and day out. Everyone is cheering for you and supporting you to do your very best. We highly, highly suggest signing up.
A few things to note for the 2024 CrossFit Open at CrossFit Indestri.
We will only hold the workouts on Saturday mornings. While we would love everyone to register and compete, if you’re unable to attend the open workouts on Saturday mornings, we don’t have other options for times to do them. The real talk of this is, we love the Open, we love the community that it brings, we love the competition. For years prior to COVID, CrossFit Indestri always hosted competitions, or was connected to competition because of our connection to UG Series. We love it. But the truth is, it’s a lot of extra work for us that we don’t see any money from. We do it because we love it, but we also run a business, and while CrossFit makes a lot of money on it, we don’t. So asking us to put in extra hours of our time becomes a lot to ask of us. So we keep the open workouts to Saturday mornings when we can get a group together to also help us judge. We hope you understand.
And that leads us into our next note for the 2024 CrossFit Open. If you plan on registering to compete ( which costs $20 US to CrossFit HQ ), we would also ask that you plan on taking the judges course ( which is typically $10 US ) on CrossFit HQ’s website, and in turn, please plan on helping us judge. We always need judges. If you're newer to CrossFit, and the thought of judging completely scares you, we would never force it upon you. So don’t worry, or think you can’t sign up because we’re asking you to judge. Please sign up. But if you’ve done the open before, plan to take your judges course, and plan that we might need to call on you to judge. The Open only happens because people are willing to help make it happen. We don’t have the time to judge every single athlete ourselves. ((Though I did have to do that in 2021 during COVID, and it made for a very long day, and a very long open season being the only judge in the facility.))
Lastly, we will be bringing our themed weeks back again, so if you have any suggestions on a theme week, last year we did tight n’ bright, lumberjack, and Hawaiian. We’re open to suggestions for the themes for 2024 so let’s hear them.
The open is a lot of fun, it’s the only time the gym is open to spectators coming in to watch and cheer you on, it’s a big community event, we hope you will all consider signing up. If you have any questions it’s very likely that someone else has the same one, so let us know, and we’ll put together a Q & A post as well, to help answer some questions.
