New Ropes

Our new climbing ropes have arrived, and over the weekend Coach Steph’s husband Brad was kind enough to come in and hang them for us.

It’s been over 2 years since we’ve programmed use of the Ropes in the facility. During the height of the pandemic, we had no way to sanitize the ropes. (Ropes can not get wet, or they swell, and become very stiff.) Our old ropes we’re also in bad shape.

We want to keep these new ropes in good shape for as long as we can. In order to do so, we would ask that everyone follow a couple of rules with the ropes.

Please do not ever wear lifting shoes while climbing our ropes. Lifting shoes tear the ropes to shreds on the decent, and please to not wrap the ropes around the wooden rig. Where the ropes end up get wrapped, they split and fray. The ropes should just be dropped over the rig and left to hang please and thank you.

A heads up, while using the new ropes, they come from Rogue with a oil coating on them, so keep this in mind the first few times they’re used. You just might not want to wear your favourite clothes as they might end up with a little of the oil residue on them.

For those also new to rope climbs, or who haven’t done them in awhile, we suggest high socks, or pants when climbing the ropes as you can end up with rope burns from the ropes rubbing on your legs/shins.

We’re just starting with some rope climb technique today, but please keep in mind for those who haven’t done rope climbs lately, you should never climb higher then you are comfortable with. We do not have a crash mat for you to come down on, and we never want you to slide down the ropes and burn your hands.

Lastly, these ropes are slightly longer then our old ropes, please always pay attention on the decent of a rope climb as to not land on the access rope on the floor. It is very easy to roll an ankle that way. (Same with jumping off the pull up bars that are around the ropes on the rig. Make sure the rope is not on the floor under your pull up bar please.)

Rope climbs are a lot of fun, we will have multiple options for you, so if your nervous, do not worry. We do not expect everyone to climb the high ropes. There will be options.
