In September 2015 our friend and former CrossFit Games Athlete, who is also one of the kindest, most incredible humans, Jenny LaBaw decided to run 500 miles across the state of Colorado to raise money and awareness for Epilepsy. She called her run, Move Mountains!
As a child Jenny herself was diagnosed with Epilepsy. Jenny was actually inspired to do the run after watching a documentary about Terry Fox!
I (Jen) first met Jenny in 2013, we connected on social media and officially met in person at the 2013 CrossFit Games, we’ve stayed in touch ever since. I feel lucky to be able to call this incredible woman a friend.
In 2015 during her Move Mountains run we as a CFI community ran 500 miles over the course of the 30 days as well. As a facility we complied miles, kept track or buy in runs, focus runs, WOD runs, etc. to reach 500 miles.
On October 19th, 2015 Jenny finished her 500 miles across Colorado in 30 day. A workout was created which Jenny called Move Mountains to honour her run, we do this workout every year on October 19th to raise awareness for Epilepsy. In 2016 Jenny came to CFI on October 20th, for a women’s weekend retreat, so while we missed doing the workout with her in the facility, our 6:30pm class was lucky enough to do the workout with Katie Hogan, Nicole Holcomb, Becca Voigt and Sam Briggs in class with them!
The meaning behind the numbers :
1 (mile run) and 26 reps of movements. 1 in 26 are diagnosed with Epilepsy.
So while this workout requires more equipment then we have been using in our current classes, we didn’t want the current situation with COVID to take the Move Mountains workout away from us. ( There will be a lot of sanitization of equipment after this workout).
So go into your closets and dig out your purple gear, Purple is the colour of Epilepsy awareness. We’d love to see you come to class geared up in your purple as we all Move Mountains together!
