Cutting the Bullshit
Last week we saw a post on social media that was a little shocking. A former CrossFit Games athlete posted some workout options on a program that they sell, about certain movements you can do to get rid of cellulite. The post has since been taken down.
We say we were a little shocked by this post, because rarely do you see Elite level CrossFit athletes talk about such aesthetics based reasons for fitness. They have spent years training, eating and recovering to perform, and the way their bodies look is a result of the effort they put into training, eating and recovering.
We say rarely, but it does happen.
One of the things a lot of us fall in love with CrossFit for is the lack of bullshit. We’re not going to sell you on weight loss, quick fixes, etc. CrossFit works because you work.
The fitness industry is a multi million or billion dollar industry. Unfortunately lots of people make lots of money off the insecurities of many. We will never be that.
We don’t talk about getting beach body ready, we don’t talk about weight loss, we don’t sell you on a quick fix.
Our goal is the same as it was nearly 12 years ago when Scott Thornton first started CrossFit Indestri. It’s simply, to create a stronger Collingwood one workout at a time. To create a healthy community. That’s our goal and our main focus.
Will you lose weight doing CrossFit, sure, maybe, but you might also gain weight in terms of muscle. The scale doesn’t define your success, having abs doesn’t define your success, the size and shape of your body doesn’t define your success. Don’t let anyone, especially in the fitness industry have you think otherwise.
Of course if you’re goal is weight loss, we’re not saying that, that is a negative thing, not at all. What we are saying, is you won’t ever see us promote our business geared that way. It’s not what drives us. Aesthetics based training isn’t where our priorities or passion lies. Our passion lies creating a stronger and healthier community through functional movement, while hopefully also instilling that fitness is, and should be fun.
We always strive to never sugar code the bullshit. CrossFit works, but you have to put in the work. No quick fix, nothing happens overnight, it takes hardwork, it takes listening to and trusting the coaches and the programming, it takes eating well, it takes paying attention to your recovery, it also takes coming in with a good attitude and putting your best effort forward.
Focus on moving well, being consistent and having fun along the way.
