Congratulations
Congratulations to the 5 athletes who took on the 4 quarterfinal workouts on Friday and Saturday. Sarah. M, Britt. F, Cedric. G, Andrew. B, and Jordan. D. These 5 athletes took on 4 gruelling workouts and did an incredible job.
We also want to thank Steve. M and Jess. B for stepping in to help Steph and I judge over the course of the two days. As well as a massive thank you to everyone who came out to cheer these guys on. Judging at any stage is nerve wracking but after 12 years of judging I can say that these 4 workouts were some of the more challenging and more stressful workouts I’ve ever judged, so while I know lots of people were in the facility cheering because I could hear it, I feel like we didn’t actually get the opportunity to really and fully see it unfold as we were too focused on the task at hand. Though I actually did have the opportunity to watch just Andrew do workout 3 while Steph judged, and I have to admit that off to the side watching it unfold with the cheering of the crowd, I found myself choked up and a little teary. Thank you to the spectators for helping to make the two days fun and magical for these 5 athletes.
For the 5 athletes, we hope you’re all proud of your accomplishments this weekend. These were 4 gruelling workouts, and you each did an incredible job. Be proud, we’re extremely proud of you. This year during the open we talked a lot about not caring what you see that others may get away with, we did again a couple times over the two days this weekend. We want you to be extremely proud, and we want you to know that you earned each and every rep. This might be an unpopular opinion, but it’s the truth, these tests are about finding the fittest based on the workout put in front of you, it’s not about finding the fittest based on who can find the shortcut, or game the workout the best. So when you see athletes doing workout one and stepping up on a regular box, and then you see that same athlete on workout two doing their burpee box jump overs on jerk blocks because the width of them is thinner and faster to get over, we want each of the 5 of you to BE PROUD of what you did, proud of movement standards that you upheld, and just doing the workouts that you were given. You’re all very fit individuals, you’re all incredible athletes, and we’re extremely proud of you.
Well done.
Special shout out to Collingwood Coffee Co. for bringing in some fuel and caffeine on Saturday to keep the athletes, judges and support crew going, and as always to Emma Nichol Photography for helping us capture it all so beautifully.
