A Hero WOD
We have a group of new and newer athletes, and sometimes we take for granted that everyone knows what we’re referring to with certain things, like the meaning of the RX, what benchmark WOD’s are, Hero WOD’s etc.
Everyone so often we have to remind ourselves to explain things again.
So, Hero WOD’s are WOD’s that have been created within the CrossFit Community that are named after fallen service members who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
These WOD’s are honouring someone, so they almost always tend to be on the harder side. They’re meant to be, you’re honouring someones life through this workout. We ask that you dig deep and remember that, we always ask that you move well, but in a Hero WOD, things just all mean more.
Today’s Hero WOD is one of the more well known Hero WOD’s in the community.
The background on DT : In honour of US Air Force SSgt Timothy P. Davis, 28, who was killed on Feburary, 20 2009 supporting operations in OEF when his vehicle was struck by an IED. Timothy was survived by his wife Megan and his son, T.J., who was one year old when he passed.
The original “DT” Hero WOD was first posted on the CrossFit main site as the workout of the day for Tuesday, April 14, 2009 (“090414“).
“Heavy” and “Double” versions of this workout have appeared since then, including at the 2015 and 2016 CrossFit Games, which led to surges in the workout’s popularity.
