Do you look for the lessons?
Whether it be with an open workout, or with a workout in our regular daily classes, each workout we do has a lesson it in.
Each workouts give us the opportunity to grow. Grow as an athlete, grow as friends, grow as a community + grow as humans!
Maybe you check the blog + the movements in the workout are movements that you're unable to do. Instead of getting down about it, or even skipping the workout because you think you "Can't" do it. You put a positive spin on it. "Tomorrow I have the opportunity to work on getting a pull up." As an athlete you're going to grow. Hey you might even grow as a friend + human too, + carry over that thought process outside of the gym!
Or maybe a coach has been telling you a cue to fix a movement. ie) fight for depth in your squat. And you've never really paid much attention to it, but squats show up in the open + you have a judge standing beside you who is saying no rep, go lower. Now you fight for depth because well, you only want to have to do the 25 squats the workout is calling for. You don't want to do any extra reps. Again you're growing as an athlete.
It could even be that your not doing the workout, but you decided to come in + cheer on + support your friends + fellow members. You're watching + supporting as they're truly gutting it out in a workout. They want nothing more than to stop, but there you are, encouraging them, "just one more rep", "you can do it.", "pick it back up." It feels amazing to be able to help someone achieve something. You're growing as friends + a community. Trust us, they appreciate the support more than you know!
Each workout has lessons in it. Every day you come in the gym, competition or not you can find a lesson + grow because of it. How you act + react in workouts can also translate to life outside the gym. Each of us will also have a different lesson. Each day will most likely be a completely different lesson. But the lessons are there. Look for them, embrace them + grow from them.
