So I am reading the autobiography of Benjamin Franklin and I read this statement...
"But on the whole, tho I never arrived at the perfection I had been so ambitious of obtaining but fell far short of it.. yet I was by the endeavor a better and a happier man than I otherwise would have been if I had not attempted it. "
What does that mean to you?
To me it means even if I never accomplish all the dreams I have set forth in my journey through life, I still would rather fail a thousand times then not try at all. I am in a place where I can be happy with just trying... but I will never be happy if I don't try.
I think, It speaks volumes to what we do daily, we put ourselves in situations where we could easily read the workout and be like... nope that "seems too hard" or "I can't do that" or even "That doesn't sound very exciting"
But what it is.. Is a chance to try, and if you do it Rx, scaled, super scaled, modified or even a completely different workout... If you fail miserably and drag your way through because it was just a shitty day. You showed up, you attempted it and in that case I believe you still succeeded and you should be thankful for the ability to try.
I'm not saying everyone gets a "medal".. Fuck that, we earn that shit! But everyone gets a chance and "medals" aren't the only outcome that should be celebrated. Celebrate showing up, celebrate doing things you may have never tried somewhere else and celebrate your friends and gym peeps and what they are doing as well. Lets leave the negativity at the other gyms and believe whole-heartedly we are here to be better and lets take pride in trying!
Now get to class and get on the rower ... its gonna be one of those days you dont like me very much ( And I am completely happy with that :)
