Spotting

We have two lifts in the facility in which we like to have spotters for, the bench press, and the back squat, though with the back squat some people are more comfortable bailing inside of having a spotter, so be sure to communicate with the lifter to make sure they want you behind them and they don’t intend to bail the bar.

For all other lifts, no spotter is required. A front squat is bailed in front, anything overhead is also bailed either forwards or backwards. The spotter comes into play for lifts that you can get “stuck under”. Ie) the bench press, and for some, the back squat. Otherwise, be there for your lifting partner to cheer them on, and encourage their lifts, but please don’t spot the other lifts, they’re safer to have the athlete lifting bail out of, or simply bring the bar down.
