Standard before Speed
Always. The movement standard is the holy grail of CrossFit so to speak. Meeting the movement standard comes before adding weight, before speed, before skill progression, etc. Meeting the standard of movement comes before all else.
I had a whole blog written out, and decided to delete it, and instead just share a video. If you’ve paid much attention to the competitive side of CrossFit lately, you’ve probably heard of Andrew Hiller. He’s been making video’s calling out no reps throughout the open, etc. this year.
A lot of what Andrew has been saying lately are things we’ve been saying inside our facility for years. In his latest video he touches on standards for Murph as it’s Memorial Day in the US today (aka. the day most CrossFitters in the US do Murph.)
Give it a watch below. But also please don’t take this the wrong way. This post, just like all our posts, are not ever written to “call anyone out”. This is training, not competition, and while we strive for everyone to always hit proper movement standards, we do have some athletes in our facility who are unable to achieving some of the complete movement standards because they have something going on that hinders that, some shoulder injuries are cause for not fully being able lockout, hip or knees injuries cause for not full depth squats, the coaches know who those athletes are.
The point of this post is simply, we care more about your standard of movement than we do about your speed, the weights, etc. While Hiller might be more aggressive in his delivery, he’s an old school CrossFitter and cares about the standards very much like we do.
Give it a watch.
