Saturday’s during the Open

The Open is coming the first 3 Saturday’s in March. We’re thrilled to already have 42 athletes signed up, with more who have mentioned signing up, but have not gotten around to it yet. We wanted to share a few things about Saturday’s for those 3 weeks.

Firstly, if you are a 3x a week member who is registered for the open, you will still be able to come to the gym 3x Monday to Friday, and then still attend the open workout on Saturday, you don’t have to save a pass for Saturday. So technically for those 3 weeks, you’ll be able to attend 4 times that week if you choose to come 3x during the week.

Which also leads us to, we currently have 42 athletes to get through open workouts on Saturday’s, we will not be able to open up any spaces for athletes not registered to do the open this year. If you want to come do the workouts on Saturday for those 3 weeks, you must be registered for the open. The Open is a competition, and one that we as a CrossFit affiliate commit to holding each year. Much like if we held a competition like Festivus, or an in-house Indestri competition, that you need to register to be a part of. Based on timing, space, equipment, etc. we won’t be able to accommodate for athletes who aren’t registered.

We completely understand that some don’t like the pressure of competition, or don’t want to put a score on the leaderboard, or maybe even have a judge standing with them. But the CrossFit Open is our biggest community event of the year, it’s about more than the workout, or a score on the leaderboard, it’s about being a part of the community, and participating in the community. It’s part of the ethos of CrossFit affiliates. We want to stress that we don’t hold any expectations of anyone who is registering to compete, nor do any of the athletes in the facility, everyone is here to support and encourage you to give the best effort you have on that day. It’s a lot of fun. There are multiple different divisions that you can participate in for each workout, from foundations, to scaled, to RX, and age group divisions as well.

Will you get a little nervous before the workout? Probably, and that normal, but it’s just a workout. No different that the open workouts we retest in classes. The judge beside you isn’t out to get you, they’re not hoping you no rep. They’re the athlete who normally trains beside you in classes too, yes, their job is to ensure you uphold a standard of movement, but they’re also wanting the best for you.

We hope you understand, and that you’ll get signed up for the open.

We also encourage all members to come in and cheer on the athletes competing, this is also a great time to bring in your family and friends to come and watch you. We talk a lot about the community. This is where our community shines and we want and encourage you to be a part of that.
