New Girls
Oh boy. CrossFit has introduced 6 new Girl Workouts on crossfit.com.
The Girls of CrossFit are a set of benchmark WODs first introduced in 2003, WODs like, Fran, Grace, Helen, Isabell, Diane, and so on. They’re a set of WODs known worldwide in the CrossFit Community that we do every so often. Well, CrossFit has just added 6 new names to the list.
On January 3, 2021, CrossFit main site introduced “Grettel” and “Ingrid” which would kick off a two week stretch of introducing CrossFit’s first batch of “Girl” benchmark WODs.
“Grettel” is 10 rounds of three clean & jerks and three burpees over the bar, “Ingrid” is 10 rounds of three snatches and three burpees over the bar, both workouts are for time and both set at 135 pounds for men and 95 pounds for women.
“Barbara Ann”: is five rounds of 20 handstand push-ups, 30 deadlifts (135/95 pounds), 40 sit-ups, 50 double-unders. A mandatory three minute rest follows the completion of each round.
“Lyla”: is a descending ladder from 10 of muscle-ups and bodyweight clean and jerks for time.
“Ellen”: is three rounds for time of 20 burpees, 21 dumbbell snatches, 12 dumbbell thrusters. For the snatches one dumbbell is used and two are used for the thrusters at 50 pounds for the men and 35 for the women.
“Andi”: is 100 hang power snatches, 100 push presses, 100 sumo deadlift high pulls, and 100 front squats for time. The weight for men is 65 pounds and for women is 45 pounds.
These new WODs, unlike the original “Girls” were not named after anyone in particular, but are “cousins” of classic benchmark workouts with each designed to have a similar look and feel to a benchmark while being uniquely different. An example of that is the rep scheme for “Andi” following that of “Angie” and “Lyla” following the descending order of “Linda”.
CrossFit has been known to use main site WODs in the Open, Regional, and Games. So we will see some of these new “Girls” in the 2021 Competition season?
