The lines often get blurred between the Sport of CrossFit and CrossFit the training for life / everyday fitness.
One of the reasons for this is because there are so many outlets for us to compete. From bigger competitions like The CrossFit Open and UG Series to smaller competitions like Festivus and in house box comps.
However, our everyday class workouts are not game day.
What we mean is, yes you can go hard, we want you to get in your best workout, and yes there times when some friendly ‘competition between athletes’ who use each other to push each other harder in classes can be great. But when it comes to our class workouts, we never want to see you going so hard that you short change movement standards for speed, or get into the “get it done at all costs” mode where your technique suffers.
Classes are not competition days, don’t get wrapped up in moving so fast your movement suffers, or taking weight off because everyone is moving faster than you.
In class, use this time to move well, move with purpose, and dial in technique while moving well. This will pay off ten fold over time. Build your intensity, build your weights, build your skill levels. Class is the time to work on all of that. When you do this consistently over time you notice (for those of you who do compete) that the true game days become better. For those that don’t compete and use CrossFit for everyday life / fitness. You will notice your overall fitness getting better.
Always focused on moving better, before you focus on moving faster.
Reading this you’re probably thinking, “yeah, we know!” But when the clock counts down the 3,2,1, Go... comes a lot of times the above, is forgotten.
