Classes are Training
The lines often get blurred between the Sport of CrossFit and CrossFit the training methodology that we use for life / everyday fitness.
One of the reasons for this is because there is so much content put out onto social media, YouTube, etc. of the competitive side of CrossFit sharing tips and tricks for certain workouts or movements.
Our everyday class workouts are training days, not game days. What we mean is, yes you can go hard, we want you to get your best workout, and yes there are absolutely sometimes friendly ‘competitive in class athletes’ who use each other to push each other harder, but when it comes to our class workouts, we never want to see you going so hard that you short change movement standards for speed, or get into the “get it done at all costs” mode where your technique suffers.
Classes are not competition days, don’t get wrapped up in moving so fast your movement suffers, or taking weight off because everyone is moving faster than you and you feel the need to finish faster.
In class, use this time to move well, move with purpose, dial in technique while moving well. build your intensity, build your weights. When you do this consistently over time you notice (for those of you who do want to compete) that the true game days become better. For those that don’t compete and use CrossFit for everyday life / fitness. You will notice your overall fitness getting better.
Always focused on moving better, before you focus on moving faster or heavier. Reading this you’re probably thinking, “yeah, we know.” But when the clock counts down the 3,2,1, Go... A lot of times the above mentioned can get forgotten.
