CONGRATULATIONS!

As one of the creators of the Women Strong, and one of the co-owners of CrossFit Indestri I wanted to share a recap of the Women Strong Pairs Competition event we hosted at CFI this Saturday!We (UG Series, Scott T, Paul and I) created Women Strong in 2014, we held the Women Strong Retreat at CrossFit Indestri / Blue Mountain Resort. A group of 40 women came to spend a weekend training with, being coached by, and hanging out with 4 elite female crossfitters, Michele Letendre, Katie Hogan, Jenny LaBaw & Sam Briggs. It was an incredibly powerful, empowering and inspiring event. We created it with the idea to bring a group of like minded women together to spend a weekend empowering and inspiring one another while learning from some of the best in the business. Unique to the CrossFit Community in the amount of support athletes have for one another, with the community of their own affiliates and the greater community as a whole.In 2016 we branched Women Strong into two events, the Women Strong Pairs Competition and the Women Strong Retreat. This Saturday we hosted one of the Women Strong Pairs Competitions, the competition was also held that 4 other locations across Canada, CrossFit Canuck in the GTA, CrossFit Durst in Brantford, CrossFit De La Cite in Quebec and Athlete Inside Performance in Calgary Alberta. Each location supporting the local Women’s Shelters in their area.The day started with a welcome from Mayor Sandra Cooper and Councillor Deb Doherty, sharing a few words of encouragement before the ladies got after the 4 workouts! We were thrilled to welcome so many ladies from other gyms to CFI! Its always great to meet other members of the Canada East CrossFit community.Our CFI Ladies crushed it today! We had 4 teams of ladies, one team was made up 50% CrossFit Indestri, and 50% CrossFit Ressurection! All the ladies did really well and we’re very proud of each of you! We were also happy to see a former CFI member, Cara come back for the day and partner with Michelle, and crush the Match Game WOD btw! Kristina and Ali, Janet and Sandy, Michelle and Cara, and Haley & Anna, congratulations and well done ladies, proud doesn’t event begin to cover it! Congratulations to Haley & Anna the CFI/CFR team for placing 2nd in the Semi-Pro division!A very special shout out and thank you to all the members of CFI and beyond who volunteered today! We couldn’t do the event without you, I hope you know how much your help is truly and honestly appreciated! Also to the members we saw come out to support our ladies, to our coaches who also came to judge and cheer on/encourage everyone! Coach Neal also made a surprise visit today! The support we get from our members make me (and I think I can speak for Steph and Stouty as well) so proud of the community at CFI. THANK YOU!To end the day at our Women Strong Pairs Competition, we presented a cheque on behalf of CFI and UG Series to Sandy from My Friends House for over $1000!!! We couldn’t be more proud! Our goal was a $1000 donation and we surpassed that! Great day all in all!Thank you again!And to Steph & Stouty thank you for jumping on board to have us host the event. ((Stouty was sad to have to miss this, but he had to fly to Calgary to host an adaptive alliance seminar!)) I also want/need to extend a massive thank you to Steph who was a rockstar today helping to ensure everything ran smoothly, as well as Joelle Thornton & Tracy Nanckivell!We’re looking forward to the Women Strong Retreat this coming October 20th-23rd, when we will have a group of women come to once again train with, be coached by, and hang out with 4 elite female crossfitters. This year, UG’s Women Strong Retreat will be lead by, Sam Briggs, Katie Hogan, Jenny LaBaw and Becca Voigt!

NEW MOVE OF THE WEEK
To keep things varied at CrossFit Indestri we are always trying to find new complex movements and ways to keep you entertained and thinking. THIS SUNDAY WE ARE GOING TO WORK ON SOME CONTROLLED BREATHING EXERCISES AS OUR NEW MOVE. THESE WILL START TO BE IN YOUR RECOVERY WORK AND WARM UP.
