It's the most wonderful time of the year - Tuesday, January 9, 2018

It's the most wonderful time of the year….

Yep we know that Christmas is over.  But, we're embarking on what some refer to as the 'Christmas for CrossFitters".  It's the start of the CrossFit (as a sport) season!Wait what?  CrossFit, and the Sport of CrossFit are different?Yes, absolutely they are!  CrossFit is a fitness methodology.

CrossFit is constantly varied functional movements executed at high intensity across broad time and modal domains.

CrossFit as a Sport or better known as the CrossFit Games is a competition to find the Fittest man, woman and team on Earth. It is a competition where the top athletes win money!  Consider it as the NHL, MBA, NFL, MLB.  It's the top 1% of all CrossFitters.

So what's the Open and why should you compete?

The Open is the 1st stage in the 3 step process of the CrossFit Games.  Stage 1, CrossFit Open,  Stage 2, CrossFit Regional and Stage 3 CrossFit Games. The Open takes place over a 5 week period (beginning Feb 22nd) in affiliates all over the world.  On Thursday nights the director of the CF Games, Dave Castro comes online at games.crossfit.com and announces what the workout for that week will be.  Week one is 18.1, week two is 18.2, week three is 18.3, week four is 18.4 and week five is, you guessed it, 18.5.  After the announcement two of the top athletes in the world will go head to head and we all get to watch online to witness just how much fun it's going to be for us!!  :)At CFI for those who register for the Open, we do the workout on Saturday mornings, beginning at 9am until everyone gets a chance to go through with a qualified judge, (usually until noon).  Registration for the open is $20 us, and begins this Thursday, Jan 11th at games.crossfit.com.Last year we had over 50 members compete, we hope more of you will this year!  We should mention, there is a scaled and RX division, so everyone can truly play.  Why should you?  Well because CrossFit is about community, and this is truly the largest community event there is.  And it's fun!  We all come together to support and cheer each other on, and this is a great way to measure your fitness year over year!  Much like benchmark workouts!  If that didn't sell you, we also have fun themes each week, so we dress up!  :)   It is honestly fun.  If the fact that you're being judged scares you, don't let it.  All the judges are friendly and they each honestly want you to do your very best!  There just there to count your reps and ensure movement standards are met!  (And maybe a little encouragement along the way!)Confused at all about what the open is, ask one of us and we'd be happy to share more. For those who know exactly what the open is, get ready, it's bound to be a fun and exciting year!!((**For any members who take the judges course, please let Jen know.  Thank you!  For those interested in the online judges course, it's also a great course to take to review all movement standards.**))Get ready to register on Thursday and let's fill our chalkboard beside the desk with even more names this year!

Some of the 2017 Open names.  We couldn't see to find the photo with the board full!
