Fundraiser
As many of you know CrossFit Indestri has been supporting the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation since the gym first opened. For those who don't know before CFI, I (Jen) was the volunteer Run Director for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure in Collingwood. I spent over 6 years helping raise money for CBCF, through the Run for the Cure, the Romp to Stomp ( with member Steph McLarty ), etc. Proudly leading the run with our small community run site in Collingwood to raising over 1 million dollars in just 7 short years!So many of us have lost family members to cancer. I lost my father 14 years ago. It wasn't breast cancer, but when I was asked to take over the run, I jumped at the chance, I believed that if I did my part to help raise money, that cancer would leave my family alone. This would turn out not to be the case. 5 years and hundred of thousands of dollars raised and my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Luckily it was very early, and she is fine! But I'm not the only one. Stouty as many of you may know, lost his mother, an amazing woman, to breast cancer. Scott Thornton's mother in-law successfully battled Breast Cancer during his time on Battle of the Blades and Tyson's mother also successfully battled breast cancer, and that's just a handful of us. We know many of you have be touched by cancer as well. Needless to say, the support that CFI has given CBCF over the years has been for many reasons. Together as a gym we have raised over $100,000 towards creating a future without breast cancer.Each fall we typically hold a fun workout at the gym, followed by food and a silent auction which we have always donated to our CFI Run for the Cure team. This year, we haven't put a team in the run, however we are going to hold a fun Celebrating 7 workout at the gym on Saturday, September 30th to celebrate the gyms 7th anniversary, included in that day we're going to do a fundraiser, food and a silent auction, etc.All money raised will be donated to the Hunt Family. Narda and Brian Hunt along with both of their girls have been members of CFI since the old gym. Narda in her 36 years has battled breast cancer more than once and they found out in the spring that the cancer was back and was in her liver. The treatments that Narda has been taking aren't cutting it any longer and they're running out of options and time. Please watch this video to hear from Narda and Brian themselves.https://vimeo.com/234386827As friends, family, etc. one of the hardest parts of having someone have cancer, is the lack of ability to do anything to help. Sure there are little things we can do to make things a little easier. But to truly be able to make a difference, it isn't often something we can really do. But yesterday about the possibility to help the Hunt's raise some money. Money that will help Narda be able to get a treatment overseas to give her the possibility of a longer life, there was absolutely no question that we were going to do something to help!We hope to see our whole CFI community on Saturday September 30th, celebrating our 7 years and helping this incredible family. Open to anyone and everyone, please feel free to bring friends and family. A FB event page is being created, so please invite any and all to attend.
If anyone is interested in donating something to the silent auction please let us know!We have a bunch of very cool items already from;
