Integrity

Throughout the 3 weeks of the open you will have heard us say more than a few times, ‘we don’t care what you see online, what other locations might be allowing, or other athletes get away with. In our facility the standards are the standards.’

May sound harsh, but it’s the truth. I come from a background of being involved with holding some of the largest competitions in Canada, at one time we were running over 1200 athletes through a weekend competition. Steph has always been closely involved, and Stouty has been running competitions through WheelWOD and has been part of the Adaptive side of the CrossFit Games. When we hold competitions, and program them, we expect athletes to just do the work, not game it and ride the line, to hold the standards, and do the work. So when CrossFit puts out a movement standard, a workout, etc. we stick with it. We’re not looking for how close we can have you ride the line. We ask you to just do the work they’ve asked for.

We’ve been around for a long-time in terms of CrossFit, OG’s if you will. Before there was a ton of money on the line with the games. We love the open, but it always frustrates us that we see people in other locations not upholding the movement standards, or the rules. ie) Taping the rig and using grips on the tape. Competition is meant to be fair, but it can only be if everyone plays by the same rules, and standards that have been asked. It’s unfortunate and frustrating that, that isn’t the case everywhere. We know it frustrates you as well, as we’ve had a number of conversations over the last 3 weeks with you too. We learnt a long time ago that we can’t control what others outside the walls of our affiliate do. But you can be sure that we will hold integrity to the movement standards and the competition rules inside our facility.

While that might cost us placing on the leaderboard (if you’re following the leaderboard) you can be proud and you should be proud in knowing that you earned those reps, and were held to the standard and the rules of the workouts.
