I (Jen) do try not to write too many blogs in my opinion. Though this one will be, as I wanted to share a cool experience.
This past weekend my family + I headed to Columbus Ohio for the Rogue Invitational, CrossFit sanctioned event. Coach Terrence was also working the event, + CFI members Crystal + Beth-Marie were there volunteering!
When this event was announced, I told my husband (very nicely) we were going! For the sheer fact that they had a Legends Division! Some of the true legends in the sport of fitness, all on the same floor, together again! Some of the legends are still very much a part of the competitive scene, + others have retired, + this past weekend was their first time on the competition floor in years! Many of these athletes, we had the privilege of seeing compete in Carson the first couple times we went to the Games, though we had never seen Tanya Wagner, Mikko Salo or Josh Everett compete.
The entire Rogue Invitational was an incredible event. Rogue certainly knows how to put on a great show! Almost Games like! And the legends division did not disappoint! As a fan of the sport of fitness, + a fan of these athletes, it was an incredible experience.
The level of respect these athletes have for one another, + for the sport of fitness is second to none! Yes, each one is competitive, it’s what drives them, + makes them the athletes that they are. But the way each + every single one of the legends carry themselves on + off the field, from the way they walk out, to the way they treat their judges + each other, to the way they interact with the fans. These guys are what drew so many to the Sport! If you have a chance to go back to the Rogue LiveStream + watch the Legends division, I would highly recommend it! Esp. Matt Chan’s speech after Amanda if you can find it!
These guys truly paved the way for all competitive CrossFitters! If I’m completely honest, I hope this division grows, as there are some other athletes I would love to see back on the floor together again.
I’ve enclosed a clip I shared on Instagram, a fun moment in the Legends division when Rich Froning showed up in his old school black headband, + crushed Amanda. Even having a little fun with his good buddy Dan Bailey + taking a second to look over at him before finishing + winning the event. Pumping up the crowd!
It may be a little hard to see who each athlete is, so lanes from left to right, male legends; Matt Chan, Dan Bailey, Chris Spealler, Jason Khalipa, Rich Froning, Graham Holmberg, Josh Everett, Tommy Hackenbruck, + Mikko Salo.
The field of legends with Rogue owners Bill + Caity. Caity herself should have been on the field of women legends as she won the CrossFit Games in 2008!
Becca Voigt, Christy Adkins, Tommy Hackenbruck, Matt Chan, Jason Khalipa, Bill Henniger, Caity Henniger, Graham Holmberg, Josh Everett, Dan Bailey, Mikko Salo, Julie Foucher , Kris Clever, Sam Briggs, Tanya Wagner, Annie Sakamoto, Chris Spealler.
