The Open Photos
Last year we took some fun photos of our athletes competing in the open. It was a back to back, workout clothes vs. work clothes. This year we’re going to continue with the Open photos, just a different type. It’s going to be pretty cool, all you will need this year is your workout gear!
Justin Taylor one of our members is a professional photographer and has been kind enough to agree to help us with this project which will begin next weekend. We will only be doing 2 photo shoots for this, so we’re really hoping that everyone participating in the 2018 Open can attend one of the photo shoots. The first will be this coming Sunday, January 21st at 12pm. Please speak with Jen about attending.

As you may have also noticed, the chalkboard behind the front desk is set up and much like the past couple years, will have the names of each of you who register for the open on it. Along with your name, this year we’re going to add the number of years you’ve done the open. As an example; Jennifer Nichol – 6th Year ((As 2018 will be the 6th open I will be participating in.))
Also please note that if or when you register for the Open please make sure you select Affiliate : CrossFit Indestri as well as Team : CrossFit Indestri, if you have already registered you should be able to go back in and select them.
The 2018 CrossFit Open is upon us….. We can’t wait! It’s always such a fun time of the year…. Don’t look at the open as a stress (if you do), it’s just another workout. It’s about community, and fun. Stepping outside your comfort zone, pushing yourself a little, but overall it’s about FUN! Can’t lift a weight or do a movement….. So what, you’ve found a weakness and now know what you need to work on. In 2013 when we did the open at the old CFI location there were members who spent the whole workout fighting for 1 rep! Yes 1 rep….. For those who were there, you will remember watching Cathy Jackson during 13.4 fight for just 1 rep.
13.4 in 7 mins complete as many reps as possible of:
135/95 Clean & Jerk – 3 reps
135/95 Clean & Jerk – 6 reps
135/95 Clean & Jerk – 9 reps
and so on adding 3 reps each round…..
Cathy spent the entire 7 mins trying to hit just 1 rep of the 95lb C&J, and when she did hit a rep the entire gym went nuts! I was competing in the same heat as Cathy, and I even remember going nuts for her in the middle of my workout. Sure it’s cool to watch the “big guns” crush the open workouts, but it’s amazing to watch someone get that 1 rep, or multiple reps of something they have never done before. So don’t look at the Open as something scary because you ‘think’ you might not be able to do something. Look at the open as having all your CFI family there to help encourage you to do something they know you can!
The Open will kick off with the first announced workout 18.1 on games.crossfit.com on Thursday, Feb 22nd. and continue for 5 weeks. We will be hitting the workouts at CFI on the following dates:
18.1 – Saturday, Feb 24th at 9am – TBA
18.2 – Saturday, March 3rd at 9am – TBA
18.3 – Saturday, March 10th at 9am – SQ71 will be onsite
18.4 – Saturday, March 17th at 9am – TBA
18.5 – Saturday, March 24th at 9am -TBA
Each week we will have a theme….. So get ready to dress up and have some fun! We typically have companies come in each week to sell product. We will update you on who will be onsite which day soon!

As always anyone is welcome to bring in snacks, which we will set up on a table in the lobby. Your family and friends are absolutely welcome to come in and cheer you on.
The judges course should be available online on the crossfit.com website for those interested in taking it this year! Again, this is a great course for all our members to take. It does cost $10us but it’s great for going over movement standards and we can always use help judging during the open and during events like Festivus and UG Series and the judges course is a great tool to have!
