Years in the Making
Those who follow us on instagram would have seen a similar post today (Sunday, June 17th). It seemed like a fitting post today. As 2 years ago on this day, co-owner of CrossFit Indestri and founder of WheelWOD, Adaptive athlete, and father, Chris Stoutenburg did what some (mainly those who don’t know him) would think was the thinkable.
To those of us who know him, it wasn’t so much the unthinkable, because we know when it comes to him, anything is possible.
With the assistance of Scott, Jay & Chad. (Myself, Jen behind the camera) Stouty got out of his wheelchair, put leg braces on, was helped into a standing position and he took his FIRST STEPS in 19 years and 363 days.
Stouty began CrossFit in 2012 as a tool to give him enough strength and stability to be able to lift and hold his ‘soon to be newborn son Quintyn.’
After just a month or so of CrossFit he had more stability and core strength then he had, had in years of playing and training at the Olympic level in wheelchair basketball.
So when we say things like, it doesn’t happen overnight, it takes time, trust the process, trust your coach, it will happen! Remember this post and this photo, it was 19 years and 363 days in the making!
It seemed fitting to share today, on the 2 year anniversary of this moment, and the fact that its Father’s Day, and becoming a father was one of the big motivating factors as to why Stouty tired out this thing called CrossFit in the first place.
