It’s a bitter sweet day. Bitter because she’s not here anymore and she should be! For those of you who don’t know who JY is, Jen Young was a CrossFit Athlete from Burlington. She was not a games athlete, just a weekend warrior like most of us.
But she made a HUGE and lasting impact on the community.
Jen loved CrossFit, the athletes, the workouts, but most importantly the community. From competing in local competitions to writing for Sweat RX Magazine. JY was ingrained in the Canada East Community. And after she was diagnosed with Cervical cancer it become her mission to help others in the same situation. She created a foundation to help others called Love the Snatch.
Jen lost her battle with cervical cancer on May 17th, 2015. There are a handful of us here at CFI who were lucky enough to know this incredible woman! Non more Coach Brit who was one of Jen’s best friends. (Brit wrote a touching article for Sweat RX Magazine about her a couple years ago.) For those of us who knew her, the sweet part of today is that we get to pass on who she was to you. Every year on May 17th, we get to spend a gruelling 25 mins continuing to honour her, doing something she loved!
So get out your Love the Snatch shirts, or wear the colour teal, and much like a hero WOD, today, give this one everything you have for JY!
